Deer Hide Tanning Class February 2026

This class, which was held at OSA Headquarters on February 7, involved fleshing the hides, a week of dehairing the hide, neutralizing the hide, brain tanning the hide, wringing the hide and then the stretching process. Members involved were Andy Gerrard and OSA President Michael Mansell. We want to recognize Charles Richardson, a new member, for finishing all steps.

Conservation Federation of Missouri Conference 2026

Being an affiliate of the Conservation Federation of Missouri, Outdoor Skills of America had the opportunity to showcase some of the different events and activities we host for the general public. This event was held at Lodge of 4 Seasons in Osage Beach, MO, on March 6 and 7. President Michael Mansell and Treasurer Karen Mansell enjoyed meeting old friends and making new friends while attending the conference.
2026 Turkey Wing Bone Call Class

Participants were treated to a PowerPoint presentation on the making of a wing-bone turkey call and then proceeded to make their own calls with cleaned bones pulled from donated turkey wings. Members involved in making this possible were Jerry Bryant and OSA President Michael Mansell. The PowerPoint presentation was made by OSA Treasurer Karen Mansell.

Flint Knapping 2026
This event was hosted at Outdoor Skills of America, Inc Headquarters in Bates City, MO on April 4 by Michael Mansell, President of OSA.
Participants were introduced to the different stones and glass used in the making of tools and arrowheads with a variety of methods, whether using hammerstone, deer antler tips or more modern tools such as copper billets or copper pressure flakers. In the end several arrowheads were made. Thanks to OSA Treasurer Karen Mansell for cooking the burgers for a hungry group.

2026 Veterans Snagging Trip

It was a great honor for Outdoor Skills of America, Inc. to be asked to help veterans fulfill some the bucket list goal of being able say they caught a dinosaur period fish. This successful event was achieved with the participation of Veterans Hunting and Fishing Network, who furnished the veterans using a draw system. Thank you to OSA members Brad Jackson and Shannon Robinson for helping to make memories and friends.

The five participants in attendance had a great time on the water snagging for spoonbill. A total 10 spoonbills were caught, two of which were undersized and returned to the water, and two more were lost before they could be brought into the boat. The largest catch of the day weighed in at 71.4 lbs. and was caught by OSA founder and President Michael Mansell.
